Frequently Asked Question

What is Neighborhood Watch?

Neighborhood watch is a citizen's involvement program where residents, in cooperation with law enforcement, participate in the prevention and detection of criminal activity within their neighborhood. Residents become the "eyes" and "ears" of the police department, reporting any suspicious or criminal activity when it occurs. Especially in today's world it makes sense to involve the community in the reduction of crime. Who knows better than residents what does or does not belong in their neighborhood?

Neighborhood watch is not a program designed for participants to take personal risks to prevent crime, nor is it a 100% guarantee that crime will never happen within the neighborhood.

Neighborhood watch is easy to implement in your community, and participation does not require much time! The heart of the program is an attitude change - from minding your own business to minding what's going on where you live! A nosy neighbor knows what's going on! Meetings are usually held on a quarterly or twice yearly basis, at a neighbor's house or during a community BBQ.
